These are the top 20 cities for cheating in the US: sex study

After more than a year stuck on lockdown with their significant others, people are itching to get out of the house — and outside their marriage or relationship — for some sexy action.

As COVID-19 restrictions loosen up nationwide, a new study by Ashley Madison — yes the infamous dating site that caters to cheaters — has revealed the top 20 cities for loosening up your marital vows.

The state-by-state infidelity breakdown, published in the Journal of Sex Research, was based on the number of signups to the dating service between June 20, 2020 and September 22, 2020, on a per capita basis.

Last year, the company saw a spike in the number of sign-ups between March 1 and April 25, with up to 17,000-plus new accounts created in a single day.

Two Florida hot spots — Miami and Orlando — and the aptly nicknamed Sin City landed on top of the “Summer of Sex Index.” Meanwhile, such disparate cities as Boise, Idaho and Tucson, Arizona made their debuts just in time for what’s alternately been dubbed “Hot Vax Summer,” “Slutty Summer” or “The Whoring ’20s.”

The new research also found that women are more likely than men to sneak outside of their marriage to get frisky. When only looking at women who slipped into someone else’s sheets, the list of top cities for screwing around skewed a little. Miami kept the top hot spot, but Atlanta and Oklahoma City took over the second and third spots.

Meanwhile, women may not only be having more affairs — they might be the experts.

“Men have been traditionally portrayed as the ones capable of balancing both a spouse and a lover,” said Dr. Tammy Nelson, author of “When You’re the One Who Cheats,” who is quoted in the research. “But the truth is, women are better at multitasking — and according to this study, they may be better at cheating.”

While most female survey respondents agreed that having an affair is morally wrong, they didn’t feel guilty about it — they just reported feeling more judged by the proverbial patriarchal society.

“More than half of the women I talked to said: ‘I’m in a sexless marriage or I’m not having orgasms, and that’s why I’m cheating,’ ” said researcher Alicia Walker, author of “The Secret Life of the Cheating Wife: Power, Pragmatism, and Pleasure in Women’s Infidelity.”

This lack of action was found to have a direct correlation with lowered attraction levels, researchers added. Plus: 65% of women said they are no longer attracted to their spouse but 74% claimed that they still loved them.

Ways women are prioritizing their pleasure: 45% of women said that extramarital sex is better because it allows them to experiment, 42% said it lets them have more frequent sex than they have with their spouse, 39% enjoyed it because it was a novelty, and 38% used it explore their sexual fantasies.

Women are having more sex outside of their marriage but this also might be due to the amount of partners they have, according to the study. In the United States, the average number of affair partners is 6 — which is higher than the global average of 5.7 but lower than our sensual neighbors below the border: Mexican women have an average of 10 affair partners.

Also, those older in age reported participating in extramarital affairs more often than younger couples. This correlates with Florida taking up 15% of the top 20 cities for infidelity. Florida has an average age of 42 years old, which is higher than the nation’s average age of 38 years old.

Ashley Madison’s chief strategy officer, Paul Keable has said that Ashley Madison users also claimed they use extramarital affairs as a “form of self-care” that helps them get through stressful or uncertain times. Other users claimed cheating helps them avoid divorce.

Regardless of what affairs are used for, if you live in one of the top 20 cities maybe keep your spouse on lockdown in the bedroom tonight? If it doesn’t save your marriage at least it counts as a workout.
